CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –

Junior defender Claire Constant (Alexandria, Va.) has been named the Co-ACC Defensive Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Tuesday (Sept. 29).

Constant shared the honor with North Carolina’s Maycee Bell.

The Virginia defender helped lift the Cavaliers to a 1-0 victory at Virginia Tech last week when she hit the golden goal in the 94th minute. Constant’s game winner came off a corner kick served into the box by freshman Lia Godfrey (Fleming Island, Fla.) to give Virginia the victory. It was the first game-winning goal in Constant’s collegiate career.

Defensively, Constant helped the Cavaliers turn in the shutout from her center back position as she played the full time.

Virginia returns to action on Thursday (Oct. 1) when the Cavaliers host Pittsburgh in a 7 p.m. contest at Klöckner Stadium. The match will be broadcast on the ACC Regional Sports Networks.
