CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior forward Alexa Spaanstra (Brighton, Mich.) of the No. 11 Virginia women’s soccer team has been named ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week by the league office, it was announced on Tuesday (Oct. 20).

Spaanstra scored three goals last week as the Cavaliers split a pair of matches against nationally-ranked foes, taking a 2-0 victory over No. 13 Louisville and playing a pitched battle in a 4-3 loss to No. 2 Florida State.

In her return to action for the first time in almost a month after an injury at Clemson on September 20, Spaanstra scored both goals in the victory over the Cardinals, converting in the 24th minute off an assist from Alissa Gorzak (Naperville, Ill.) and hitting a penalty kick in the 34th minute. The two goals tied a career high for the junior, while the four points also matched a career high.

Against the Seminoles, Spaanstra hit a penalty kick in the 34th minute to get the Cavaliers on the board as a part of a rally that would see Virginia tie the match at 3-3 against the second-ranked Seminoles.

Virginia will return to action next week when the Cavaliers travel to face Boston College on Thursday, October 29, in a 6 p.m. contest on the ACC Network.
