Virginia Rowing Announces 2021 Schedule
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia rowing head coach Kevin Sauer announced the Cavaliers’ 2021 schedule on Monday (March 1). The 10-time defending Atlantic Coast Conference champions will compete in eight regattas in its return to racing after last season was canceled due to the pandemic.
“For a year, everyone has been training and waiting, and UVA is no exception.” head coach Kevin Sauer said. “We are very grateful for the opportunity to race and compete against some of the fastest teams in the country.”
Virginia will open its season at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational in Tennessee on Saturday and Sunday, March 13-14. The regatta has served as UVA’s official spring opener for several seasons.
UVA will compete against Alabama, Clemson, Indiana, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Tulsa and Wisconsin at the Cardinal Invite.
The Cavaliers will host UCF, Duke, North Carolina and Tennessee at the Rivanna Duals at the Rivanna Reservoir on Friday and Saturday, March 26-27.
Virginia travels to Cincinnati, Ohio, to face Big Ten heavyweights Ohio State and Michigan (April 3).
The Cavaliers return to Ohio for the B1G Invite (April 17-18), competing against Alabama, Brown, Duke, Indiana, Iowa, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Tennessee and Wisconsin in the 16-team regatta.
UVA hosts Navy on Saturday, April 24 before concluding its regular season with a home regatta against Texas on Sunday, May 2.
The ACC Rowing Championships will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 14-15 in Clemson, S.C. Virginia has won 19 of the 20 conference championships and has claimed 77 of the 85 events contested. The conference regatta features five events, including the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Third Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four.
The NCAA Championships will be held Friday-Sunday, May 28-30 in Sarasota, Fla. The Cavaliers placed 10th at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fans will not be allowed to attend home regattas at the Rivanna Reservoir boathouse.
