CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia women’s tennis player Emma Navarro (Charleston, S.C.)  has been named both the ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week as announced Tuesday (April 13) by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Emma Navarro began her week competing at the Volvo Car Open, the WTA 500 tournament being held in her hometown of Charleston, S.C., picking up her first career win in a WTA tour-level match when she advanced to the second round in singles, downing World No. 147 Renata Zarazua in straight sets. Navarro also advanced to the quarterfinals in doubles, playing the late match on Thursday night before arriving in Winston-Salem on Friday in time for Virginia’s match against the Demon Deacons. Navarro then proceeded to top No. 15 Carolyn Campana 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 en route to UVA’s 5-2 victory. Navarro closed out the weekend with her third victory of the season against a top-10 opponent, topping No. 5 Anna Rogers of NC State 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

This is her sixth ACC Freshman of the Week honor. She was previously named the ACC Player of the Week on Feb. 2.
