CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Five members of the Virginia wrestling team have been named to the All-ACC Academic Wrestling Team as announced by the league office on Wednesday (April 14). The five selections is the second most in the league.

Senior Louie Hayes (Orland Park, Ill.), junior Brian Courtney (Athens, Pa.) and Jake Keating (Naperville, Ill.), and sophomores Patrick McCormick (Poquoson, Va.) and Justin McCoy (New Paris, Pa.) all received the distinction for excellence on the mat and in the classroom.

Hayes earned All-America honors at the NCAA Championships on the way to an eighth-place finish in 2021. He is a four-time selection to the All-ACC Academic Wrestling Team. McCoy is a two-time selection to the team, while Courtney, Keating and McCormick are first-time selections to the team. All five wrestlers advanced to the NCAA Championships, while Keating and McCoy were All-ACC honorees and finalists at the ACC Championships in their weight classes.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
