CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Two Virginia women’s tennis players, senior Rosie Johanson (Vancouver, Canada) and freshman Emma Navarro (Charleston, S.C.) will be competing at the Boar’s Head Resort Women’s Open being held April 26-May at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville.

This is the 20th year of the ITF World Tennis Tour W60-level tournament, which was not held last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Johanson opened play on  Monday in the first round of singles qualifying, falling 6-4, 6-0 to Catherine Harrison.

Navarro, who has moved up to No. 350 in the WTA world rankings, will play in the singles main draw which begins on Tuesday. She faced the tournament’s No. 2 seed Maiar Sherif Ahmed Abdelaziz of Egypt, falling 6-4, 6-1. Sherif Ahmed Abdelaziz is currently ranked No. 123 in the world rankings.

Johanson and Navarro will play together in the doubles main draw, facing top-seed Anna Danilina and ArinaRodionova on Wednesday in the fourth match on Center Court.

The tournament is free and open to the public. However, tickets will be required for the final days of the tournament.
