CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Jumper Owayne Owens (Montego Bay, Jamaica) leads a list of six Cavaliers named to the 2021 Virginia Sports Information Director’s University Division Men’s All-State Indoor Track & Field Team.

Owens was selected by the organization as its male Field Athlete of the Year. He was also a first-team all-state selection. This season Owens was named an indoor first-team All-American after placing sixth at the NCAA Championships in the triple jump. He won the ACC triple jump title and also set the school record in the long jump during the season.

Joining Owens on the first team was freshman thrower Jacob Lemmon (Sanibel, Fla.) and the Cavaliers’ 4×400 medley relay team of Jay Pendarvis (Annandale, Va.), Jordan Willis (Williamsburg, Va.), Nigal Davis (Martinsville, Va.) and Brandon Outlaw (Moorestown, N.J.).

Lemmon earned second-team All-ACC honors in the weight throw with a fifth-place finish at ACC Championships this season. His personal best throw ranks number two on the UVA freshman all-time performance list and No. 3 on Virginia’s all-time chart. The 4×400 team clocked the fifth-best performance in Cavalier history during the season.

Outlaw and Willis were second-team all-state selections in the sprints area. They were joined by pole vaulter Kane Aldrich (Naples, Fla.) and multi-events performer Elby Omohundro (Midlothian, Va.).

Each all-state team consists of three sprinters, two middle-distance runners, two distance runners, one hurdler, four jumpers, two throwers, one multi-event athlete and two relays.

VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
