CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Lia Godfrey (Fleming Island, Fla.), a freshman on the Virginia women’s soccer team, has been named a second-team All-America selection by the United Soccer Coaches it was announced on Thursday (May 13) prior to the Cavaliers’ appearance in the College Cup.

Godfrey is the 26th player in program history to earn All-America honors from the organization. It is the 17th time in the last 18 seasons a Virginia player has earned All-America honors from the coaches association. She was a first-team All-Region selection and was one of three Cavaliers to earn first-team All-Region honors.

Named the ACC Freshman of the Year and an All-ACC second-team selection, Godfrey leads the Cavaliers in assists with nine and sits atop the ACC in the category at the time of the announcement. Five of her assists have come on game-winning goals, including the goal in Virginia’s 1-0 victory over TCU in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament last weekend. Godfrey also assisted on game-winning goals in both matches against Virginia Tech, Louisville in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals and George Mason. She is third on the team in total points with 17 as she has also scored four goals.

The Cavaliers are 14-4-2 and currently ranked No. 13 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches poll. Virginia is in the College Cup for the fourth time in program history and third time under head coach Steve Swanson and will face top-ranked Florida State at 6 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN2.
