CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – On the heels of his second ACC Player of the Week Award of the 2021 season, Andrew Abbott (Republican Grove, Va.) was recognized as a National Player of the Week by Perfect Game, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Abbott struck out a career-high 16 batters on Friday (May 14) against Wake Forest while tossing 7.1 innings of the program’s seventh no-hitter. The 16 strikeouts were the most by an ACC pitcher this season and the third most by a UVA-pitcher ever.

The senior lefthander leads the ACC in strikeouts with 115, the sixth-most by a Cavalier pitcher in a single season. His 280 career strikeouts are the third most in program history, nine behind UVA Baseball Hall of Famer Seth Greisinger (1994-96) for second place all time.
