CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior forward Alexa Spaanstra (Brighton, Mich.) has been named a Scholar All-America selection by the United Soccer Coaches it was announced by the organization with the release of the annual teams.

Spaanstra earned second-team honors from the organization after being named to a first-team All-Region selection earlier this week.

To be eligible for selection, candidates must be a at least a junior in academic standing and have a cumulative GPA of 3.40 for their career. Players must also have started at least 50 percent of games played and contribute significantly to the team.

Spaanstra finished the 2020-21 season with a total of 22 points as she tallied 10 goals and two assists. The forward turned in three game-winning goals and tallied a trio of braces as she scored both goals for Virginia in 2-0 wins over No. 13 Louisville in the fall and matched that with braces in NCAA Tournament victories over SIUE and No. 12 seed BYU to help push Virginia to the College Cup. She was named an All-ACC first team selection and an All-Region first-team selection by the United Soccer Coaches.
