CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Sophomore Andreas Ueland (Bryne, Norway) and former Cavalier Bret Halsey (Sterling, Va.) were each listed on the 2020 Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State University Division Men’s Soccer team on Tuesday (May 27).

Ueland was named a first team honoree as a defender while Halsey was included as a midfielder on the second team. The duo was also recognized as All-ACC performers last month.

The 2019 VaSID Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-State selection, Ueland followed up a stellar freshman year with First Team All-State honors in 2020. Serving as the team’s center back, Ueland appeared in 13 of the 16 Cavalier matches this season, including every minute of the first eight matches. He scored a game-winner on a penalty kick in against Syracuse on Oct. 30, 2020 and also assisted on the second goal of a 3-0 over George Mason on March 2, 2021. He was on the field for four of the six shutouts Virginia totaled this year.

Halsey adds All-State honors for the first time after playing every match of the fall. The underclassman signed a Generation Adidas contract in January of 2021 and was the seventh overall pick of Real Salt Lake in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft. After the Cavaliers reached the semifinals of the ACC Championship in the fall and was voted on the All-Tournament team for the second-straight year. Halsey started all 31 matches that appeared over the course of three season in Charlottesville.
