CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia wrestling team returns to action on Sunday (Nov. 28) when 33 members of the squad travel to compete at the Mat Town Open hosted by Lock Haven University. Wrestling begins at 9:30 a.m. ET.

TEAMS IN THE FIELD
In addition to the open field and Virginia, wrestlers from 10 different NCAA programs will be competing in the open tournament, including wrestlers from No. 11 Cornell, No. 22 Lehigh, No. 23 Pittsburgh, App State, Bloomsburg, Bucknell, Buffalo, Lock Haven, Navy and West Virginia.

LAST TIME AT THE MAT TOWN OPEN
This is Virginia’s first appearance at the Mat Town Open since the 2017-18 season when the Cavaliers had five wrestlers place at the annual event. Of those wrestlers, current Cavaliers to place were Scott Kiyono with second at 133 pounds, Brian Courtney with third at 141 pounds and Jake Keating with second at 149 pounds. Virginia sent eight wrestlers to the event that season.

UP NEXT FOR THE HOOS
Following the Mat Town Open, the Cavaliers will have an extended break before returning to action at the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships. The two-day event is hosted by Northwestern and begins on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Now Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
