CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia women’s soccer forward Alexa Spaanstra was named a Scholar All-Region second team selection by the United Soccer Coaches it was announced with the release of the organizations All-Region and All-America teams.

To be eligible for selection, candidates must be a at least a junior in academic standing and have a cumulative GPA of 3.40 for their career. Players must also have started at least 50 percent of games played and contribute significantly to the team.

Spaanstra was named an All-ACC and All-Region second team selection this season after tallying 23 points with seven goals and nine assists to move to seventh all-time in assists at UVA (29). She is also eighth all-time at UVA in game-winning assists (9). With her All-ACC selection she earned All-ACC honors for the fourth time in her career, while becoming a three-time All-Region honoree. Spaanstra is a Scholar All-Region selection for the second straight season after earning Scholar All-America honors a year ago.
