No. 7 Virginia Hosts Richmond Friday Afternoon
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 7 Virginia women’s tennis (2-0) hosts Richmond (0-0) on Friday, Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
MATCH INFORMATION
- Live streaming and live scoring will be available for the matches with links for both are posted on VirginiaSports.com
- Fans will be required to wear a mask while attending the matches in person
NOTING THE CAVALIERS
- The Cavaliers remained at No. 7 in this week’s ITA team rankings. Singles and doubles rankings will not be updated until Feb. 22
- Virginia opened the season with a pair of 7-0 sweeps of Marshall and Longwood
- Freshman Elaine Chervinsky won her opener against Marshall by a 6-1, 6-1 score. Against Longwood, she played at No. 1 singles and picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory
- Chervinsky and junior Natasha Subhash played at No. 2 doubles last week, winning both of their matches by a 6-0 score
- Subhash leads the Cavaliers with 12 singles wins, posting a 12-5 record. Chervinsky has 11 singles victories
- Sophomore Emma Navarro and senior Amber O’Dell played at No. 1 doubles, going 2-0 to start dual season
NOTING RICHMOND
- This is the scheduled season-opener for the Spiders. They did not have a match scheduled for last weekend
- Emily Dunbar played at No. 1 last season for the Spiders. The grad student is a three-time first-team All-A-10 honoree and was the co-player of the year in her freshman season (2018)
- Richmond went 9-5 last season, advancing to the finals of the A-10 Championship before falling to VCU
- Virginia is 29-4 all-time against Richmond
ON THE HORIZON
- The Cavaliers host ITA Kickoff Weekend matches next weekend with James Madison, Stanford and Arkansas vying for a spot at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships being held Feb. 18-21 in Seattle, Wash.
- Virginia will face James Madison on Friday, Jan. 28 at 3 p.m. followed by Stanford and Arkansas at 6 p.m. The winners will meet at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29 with the consolation match to follow
