Five Hoos Named To Women's Soccer All-ACC Academic Team
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Five members of the Virginia women’s soccer team were named to the All-ACC Academic Team on Thursday (Jan. 27) it was announced by the league office with the release of its annual team.
Forwards Alexa Spaanstra and Haley Hopkins, midfielder Lia Godfrey, and defenders Claire Constant and Samar Guidry were all selected to the team. Spaanstra is a four-time honoree on the team, while Godfrey and Guidry have been selected in back-to-back seasons. Constant and Hopkins are making their first appearances on the team.
Spaanstra was an All-Region and All-ACC second-team selection after tallying 23 points this season with seven goals and nine assists. She moved into seventh all-time at UVA in career assists (29) and eighth all-time at UVA in game-winning assists (9). She hit game-winning goals against Oklahoma and Miami.
Godfrey earned All-America honors for the second straight season after leading the team with 12 assists and adding three goals for 18 total points on the year. She also hit the game-winning goal against defending NCAA Champion Santa Clara in a neutral site game.
Guidry was an All-ACC selection and played 1,232 minutes on the back line for the Cavaliers, assisting on the game-winning goal at No. 12 West Virginia and a goal at No. 3 Florida State that helped the Cavaliers lock up the ACC regular-season title. She also assisted on a goal in the NCAA second-round win over Milwaukee.
Constant started 22 of 23 matches on the back line for Virginia, logging 1,800 minutes and helping the Cavaliers post 13 shutouts on the season. She also added a pair of goals with scores against Richmond and George Washington.
Hopkins, a graduate transfer, tallied 25 points with eight goals and nine assists on the way to All-ACC third team honors. She hit a pair of game-winning goals, including the winner over No. 17 Notre Dame.
