ROME, Ga. – Sophomore Emma Navarro is competing at the Rome Tennis Open, an ITF World Tennis Tour 60K tournament being held at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga. She has advanced to the semifinals of the singles draw

Navarro opened the tournament with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against the tournament’s No. 2 seed, Olga Govortsova of Belarus. Govortsova a career-high ranking of No. 35. In the Round of 16, she won a two-hour, forty-five-minute three-set marathon against Marcela Zacarias 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (2) to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, she faced fellow American and UCLA alumna Robin Anderson. Anderson, currently ranked No. 166, was a standout for the Bruins from 2011-15, twice being named the Honda Sports Award winner for tennis and topping the ITA rankings in both singles and doubles during her career. Navarro topped Anderson 7-5, 6-4 to reach her second-straight semifinal of an ITF World Tennis Tour tournament.

Naavarro fell 6-3, 6-2 against  Tatjana Maria of Germany in the semifinals. Maria is currently ranked No. 311 but reached a carer-high No. 46 ranking in 2017.
