Thomas Flitz Joins UVA Wrestling Staff As Director Of Operations

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head coach Steve Garland announced the addition of Thomas Flitz to the wrestling staff as the Director of Operations on Friday (Aug. 12).

Flitz joins the Virginia staff after a successful collegiate career at Appalachian State where he was a three-time NCAA qualifier and 2022 SoCon Champion at 174 pounds. He was a three-time finalist at the SoCon Championships for his career. He compiled 84 wins in his career and was a two-time All-SoCon honoree. Flitz was also a three-time NWCA Scholar All-American in his career with the Mountaineers.

“We are really excited to bring Thomas on our staff and welcome him into our family,” Garland said. “I have followed him for some time and have always respected the way he competed. He’s a great fit for our culture. I look forward to being a mentor for him and help him develop now off the mat and in the office.”

Not only is the rest of the coaching staff incredible, but the program also continues to find success at the highest level. The biggest influence on my decision to join this program was the strength of faith that this staff has. I know that they will help develop my professional career but also help guide me in my walk with Jesus.”
