CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Following a pair of strong performances from the Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown, Margot Appleton and Yasin Sado were both named ACC men’s and women’s performers of the week while Will Anthony was named the ACC Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday (Sept. 27).

Yasin Sado led the Virginia men to a win in the 8k race at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown where the Cavaliers went 2-3-4-5-6 to win their second in a row as Virginia topped a pair of ranked opponents. Sado crossed the line with a time of 23:52.9, his best on an eight-kilometer cross country course in his career, and captured his second runner-up performance in as many appearances. The performance from Sado and his teammates helped Virginia crack the top-20 of the latest USTFCCCA national coaches poll.

Will Anthony made his collegiate debut in the same race as he put down a time of 23:57.0 placing sixth overall and fifth among Cavaliers. Anthony’s finish contributed to the Cavalier scoring effort and was enough to earn him the first ACC honor of his career as he was named ACC Men’s Freshman of the Week.

For the third time this season, Margot Appleton was the first Cavalier to cross the finish line as she helped her team remain undefeated at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown. Her time of 17:11.3 was good for a runner-up finish and secured a top-two finish for the third time in as many races for Appleton this season. Appleton has been named ACC Women’s Performer of the week for the second time this season.
