CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Members of the Virginia wrestling team will ring in the New Year at one of the biggest tournaments of the season, competing across two days at the Southern Scuffle presented by Compound Sportswear. The event is hosted by Chattanooga and wrestling begins with the opening rounds on Sunday (Jan. 1).

Sunday, Jan. 1

10:45 a.m. – Championship Round of 32
1:30 p.m. – Pigtail Consolation
2:15 p.m. – Championship Round of 16
4:00 p.m. – Second Round of Consolations
5:45 p.m. – Third Round of Consolations
7:30 p.m. – Quarterfinals & Fourth Round Consolations

Monday, Jan. 2
11 a.m. – Fifth Round of Consolations
1 p.m. – Semifinals & Consolation Quarterfinals
3 p.m. – Consolation Semifinals
7 p.m. – Finals & Medal Matches

• This marks Virginia’s first appearance at the Southern Scuffle since the 2017-18 season.
• Jack Mueller (125) won the title that season while Louie Hayes (133) finished third and Sam Krivus (149) took a fourth-place finish.
• UVA is coming off a solid performance at the Midlands Championships with an 11th place finish out of 30 teams.
• Neil Antrassian led the Hoos at the Midlands with a third place finish at 184 pounds.
• Two other Hoos placed at Midlands with Justin McCoy taking fifth at 165 pounds and Michael Battista taking sixth at 197 pounds.
• It is the final open tournament of the season currently on the schedule for UVA. The Hoos return to action in dual competition against George Mason at the St. Christopher School in Richmond on Jan. 7 at 2 p.m.
