CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday (Feb. 7) that Owayne Owens of the Virginia men’s track and field team has been named the Men’s Field Performer of the Week after posting the nation’s third-best mark in the triple jump this season.
Owens made his 2023 debut in the triple jump at the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite meet. The Cavalier veteran leaped to a personal-best mark of 16.63 meters (54’6.75”) to win the event. Owens’ mark ranks second in the nation so far in 2023 and moves the veteran jumper into a tie with Marcus Robinson (’12) for second all-time at Virginia.
The Cavaliers will be back in action over the weekend competing at the Tiger Paw Invitational (Clemson, S.C.), David Hemery Valentine Invitational (Boston, Mass.) and the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational (Lynchburg, Va.)
