Dylan Dietrich Punches NCAA Singles Ticket at Regional

NORFOLK, Va. – Virginia men’s tennis sophomore Dylan Dietrich has qualified to compete in the 2024 NCAA Singles Championship with his runner-up finish at the ITA Atlantic Regional held Oct. 10-14 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.

Dietrich, the top-seeded player in the draw, won five matches in straight sets over the course five days to advance to Monday afternoon’s final where he was edged 6-4, 6-3 by 2-seed Connor van Schalkwyk of Old Dominion.

By virtue of his finalist finish, Dietrich has earned an invitation to the 2024 NCAA Singles Championship being held Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas. This is the first year that the singles and doubles championships will be contested in the fall instead of after the NCAA team championship in the spring. Dietrich competed in the last NCAA Singles Championship in the spring, advancing to the Round of 16.

Junior Mans Dahlberg, the No. 4 seed, advanced to the ITA Regional singles quarterfinals. With his finish, he has earned the opportunity to compete for one of the NCAA Championship slots available at the ITA Sectionals, being held Nov 7-10 in Chapel Hill, N.C. Six singles players from each section will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (semifinalists, two quarterfinal playoff winners, and three doubles teams from each section (12) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the Sectional Championships.

Dahlberg and Dietrich advanced to the semifinals at the Regional in doubles and will also have an opportunity to compete at the sectionals.

Freshman Stiles Brockett began play in the regional’s qualifying singles draw on Thursday (Oct. 10), winning two matches to earn a spot in the main draw.

Ty Switzer, Keegan Rice and Stefan Regalia competed in the singles main draw. Switzer and Doug Yaffa, Rice and Brockett also competed in doubles.
