CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The No.21/20 Virginia men’s and women’s cross country programs are set to host the second of two meets at Panorama Farms in 2024 with the Panorama Farms Invitational being held on Saturday (Oct.19). The men’s 8k race is scheduled to start at 8:45 a.m. while the women’s 6k will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The Virginia women enter the meet ranked No. 20 in the USTFCCCA preseason national poll while the men’s team checked in at No. 21.  The Cavalier men were picked to finish second in the ACC Preseason Coaches Poll. The Virginia women were picked fourth.

Noting the Cavaliers…

  • Last time out, both men’s and women’s teams finished 11th at the 2024 Nuttycombe Invitational.
  • At the Virginia Invitational, both teams finished runner-up in the team standings and led individually by Justin Wachtel and Gillian Bushee.
  • The Cavaliers swept their season opener at the 2024 Spider Alumni Open in as Justin Wachtel and Gillian Bushee led the way. The marks the second consecutive year in which Virginia swept the meet with Yasin Sado and Caroline Timm achieving the feat in 2023.
  • The Virginia men recorded a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 finish to led the point standings with 15 points in Richmond, Va. while the women tallied a total of 19 points with seven athletes in the top 10 finishers.
  • Virginia returns more than half of its roster including 18 men and 13 women from the 2023 season
  • Key returns include All-American Jenny Schilling. Schilling finished 39th for 6k at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships on her home course of Panorama Farms
  • The Virginia women return five of the six athletes who competed at the NCAA Championships and finished within the top-50 leading the team to a 15th place finish overall.
  • On the men’s side, Virginia’s top finisher in Will Anthony will be on the course this fall. Anthony finished 61st for 10k at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships after finishing seventh at both the NCAA southeast regional and ACC Championships.
  • The Cavalier men finished 22nd overall at last seasons NCAA Championships and return six of the seven participants.
  • In the USTFCCCA preseason polls, the women checked in at No.4 in the Southeastern Regional poll and No.20 in the national poll.
