RALEIGH, N.C.- Junior second baseman Keith Walsh went 3-for-5 with three RBI, and senior right fielder Jake Weber and sophomore left fielder Craig Lee also had three hits apiece to lead a 16-hit attack as NC State defeated Virginia 14-2 in the Wolfpack’s first ACC game of the season Saturday night at Doak Field.

With the loss, Virginia fell to 13-7 and 0-6. Casey Kennedy started for Virginia and was touched for 10 runs on 11 hits in five innings. He walked two and struck out three.

NC State broke the game open with five runs in the fourth inning. Virginia scored its two runs in the top of the sixth on a double by Brian Sherlock and a run-scoring ground ball by Ryan Gilleland. NC State answred with three in the bottom of the sixth on Aaron’s Maher’s three-run homer, his first long ball of the year. Jimmy Slaughter doubled home a run in the bottom of the eighth to cap the scoring.

The two teams will make up Friday’s rainout as part of a doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at noon. The first game will be a nine-inning game, followed 30 minutes later by a seven-inning game.
