CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Four University of Virginia batters had homeruns here Saturday as the Cavaliers took both ends of a doubleheader fromthe University of Rhode Island 10-3 and 15-5. With the wins, the Wahoosmove to 7-9 on the season, while the Rams fall to 1-3.

In the first game, a seven-inning affair, the Cavaliers pounded 10hits and made use of a couple of URI errors. Virginia plated four runs inthe first inning and six in the fourth to take a commanding 10-0 lead. TheRams scratched for a run in the top of the fifth and tacked on two more inthe top of the seventh in the losing effort.

Brandon Creswell (3-1) picked up the win for the Cavaliers, lastingfive innings and allowing one run on five hits with six strike outs and nowalks. Jon Scullin took the loss for Rhode Island after allowing 10 runs,only three of which were earned, through four innings. Hunter Wyant hit hisfirst-career home run for the Cavaliers, a two-run shot to left-center inthe fourth.

In the second game, the Cavaliers again jumped out to an early leadwith two runs in the bottom of the first. After URI tied the score in thetop of the third, Virginia got a four-spot in the bottom of the inning totake the lead for good. The Wahoos added two more runs in each the fifth,sixth and seventh innings and answered a three-run Ram top of the eighthwith another run in the bottom of the inning.

Kevin Shrout (2-2) lasted eight innings for the Cavaliers to earnthe win. He allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits with eight strikeouts. Sean Carroll took the loss for URI, lasting five innings and allowingeight runs, six earned, on nine hits.

Jonathan Benick made it three home runs in four games with atwo-run shot to right field. David Stone and Eric McGrane also had theirfirst-career home runs. After going homer-less for the first 12 games ofthe season, the Cavaliers now have six in their last four contests. LuisGiraldo also had a big day at the plate for the Cavs, going 4-for-9 withfour runs scored and six RBI in the two games.

The Cavaliers and Rams will wrap up the three-game series hereSunday at 1 p.m.
