CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –The University of Virginia has established a record for football season ticket sales for the fourth consecutive year. Virginia has sold 27,590 season tickets through May 27 for the Cavaliers’ six-game 1999 home schedule. Last year UVa sold 26,185 football season tickets.

Additional seating is available for the 1999 season because of the expansion of Virginia’s Carl Smith Center, home of David A. Harrison III Field at Scott Stadium.

“Clearly, the seating expansion at the stadium is justified based on our fans’ positive response thus far,” said Dick Mathias, Virginia’s assistant director of athletics for ticket office management. “With approximately 1,000 seats remaining that could be sold as season tickets, we feel confident we will once again maximize our season sale.”

Virginia has sold out of football season tickets each of the last three seasons and has sold at last 23,000 season tickets for the last nine years.

UVa’s six home games this fall include Wake Forest (Sept. 18), Virginia Tech (Oct. 2), Duke (Oct. 9), Florida State (Oct. 30), Georgia Tech (Nov. 6) and Buffalo (Nov. 13).

The Virginia athletic ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The office will be closed on Monday (May 31) for the Memorial Day holiday. Season tickets can be ordered by calling the athletic ticket office at 1-800-542-8821 or 804/924-8821.

Virginia finished the 1998 season with an overall record of 9-3 and participated in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. The Cavaliers were ranked 18th in the final polls by both The Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN. UVa is one of only four Division I-A programs in the nation to win at least seven games every season for the last 12 years. The others are Florida State, Michigan and Nebraska.
