CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Virginia beat host North Carolina 4-3 in softballSunday to even out the weekend’s series. Carolina won Saturday’s game,4-2.

UNC junior Crystal Henderson scored in the top of the first on asingle by freshman Natalie Anter. The Tar Heels scored twice on aVirginia error in the bottom of the second to take a 3-0 lead.

Virginia responded with two runs in the top of the third, on RBIsingles by freshman Kristen Dennis and junior Jen Krill. The Cavaliersscored two more in the top of the fourth, on a UNC throwing error and anRBI single by sophomore Meaghan Young.

Junior pitcher Chrissy Quinn earned the win for Virginia, giving upseven hits and one earned run. Sophomore Erin Joseph pitched into thefourth inning for UNC, giving up eight hits and all four runs, two ofwhich were earned. Sophomore Radara McHugh relieved Joseph in thefourth inning.

North Carolina (28-16, 1-1 ACC) hosts Florida State for adouble-header on Friday at 2 p.m. at Finley Field. The Seminoles willalso participate in UNC’s Tar Heel Invitational Tournament Saturday andSunday at Finley Field.

Virginia (18-20, 1-3 ACC) hosts Hofstra Tuesday at 3 p.m.
