Virginia, which did not fare well on the road last season, is looking to improve its road performance this year. Last season, the Cavaliers were 9-7 on the road (includes neutral sites), their worst road record since going 8-7 during the 1988-89 season.

Virginia Tech, while 4-0 and with a win over top-ten ranked Duke already this season, has not cracked the top 25 in the AP poll but did receive votes in last week’s poll.

Series with Virginia Tech
Tonight’s game is the 28th meeting between the Cavaliers and Hokies. Virginia leads the series 23-4. Virginia Tech lists the series record at 5-23 with the additional game played in 1972-73 when Virginia was a club team. The Cavaliers have won 14 of the last 15 games in the series.

In the series, the Cavaliers are 11-2 at home, 6-1 on the road and 6-1 at neutral sites. The only loss on the road came in 1994 when the Hokies upset Virginia 69-62.
