CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia freshman forward Chris Williams is the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Week for his play in Virginia’s ACC games with North Carolina State and Clemson last week. Williams, from Birmingham, Ala., has earned the award three times this season.

Williams scored 38 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the two games. He shot 57.7 percent (15-26) from the field, including 33.3 percent (3-9) from three-point range, and 83.3 percent (5-6) from the free throw line. He also had four assists, four blocked shots, one steal and six turnovers in 74 minutes of action in the two games.

In an 82-72 loss at North Carolina State on January 14, Williams scored 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He also had three assists, one blocked shot and five turnovers in 38 minutes of playing time.

In a 65-58 victory at home over Clemson on January 17, Williams scored 11 points and grabbed two rebounds. He also had three blocked shots, one assist, one steal and one turnover in 36 minutes of action.

For the season, Williams leads the Virginia team in scoring (18.4 ppg.), rebounding (7.2 rpg.) and field goal percentage (54.6 percent, 118-216), and he is tied for the team lead in steals (32). He is shooting 74.5 percent (73-98) from the free throw line.

Virginia is currently 10-8 overall and 1-5 in the ACC.
