CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.– The IWLCA Poll Committee has released thefinal regular season week’s rankings for the NCAA Division I lacrosse fieldfor 1999. Rankings will be released weekly on Monday afternoons.

The Maryland Terrapins remained on top of the IWLCA poll for thetneth consecutive week, followed by the Virginia Cavaliers. The top tenall remained the same, but the final week of the season brought about somepoll changes. Virginia Tech moved into the poll for the first time inschool history following their win at the Atlantic-10 Championships. Pleasenote that these rankings are separate from any seedings for the NCAAChampionships.

The NCAA Championships and the ECAC tournament are both beginningthis week. On Wednesday, Georgetown hosts North Carolina, Loyola welcomesDartmouth, James Madison hosts Rutgers and Penn State welcomes Division IIrepresentative West Chester. On Saturday, Maryland hosts the winner ofGeorgetown/UNC, Virginia hosts the Loyola/Dartmouth winner, Duke welcomesthe James Madison/Rutgers winner, and Princeton hosts the Penn State/WestChester winner. Yale also hosts the ECAC Championships, which will pit #1Yale vs #4 Cornell and #2 Syracuse against #3 Boston University.

Golden Rams Given Bid to NCAA National Collegiate Championships

The IWLCA Poll Committee has released thefinal regular season week’s rankings for the NCAA Division II lacrossefield for 1999. Rankings will be released weekly on Monday afternoons.

The West Chester Golden Rams, who won their eighth consecutive PSACChampionship, remain at the top of the final regular season week’s poll for1999. They were a unanimous choice again. Gannon, who spent the entire yearat #2, will look to defend their ECAC Championship at #10 Stonehill onSaturday.

West Chester received a bid to the National Collegiate Women’sLacrosse Championships and will play Penn State tomorrow, Wednesday inState College. #2 Gannon and #10 Stonehill will square off in the 1999 ECACDivision II Championship on Saturday at Stonehill. The Lady Knights are thedefending ECAC Champions.

The College of New Jersey Lions remained atop the polls for thetenth week as they finished the regular season undefeated. Please note thatthese rankings are separate from the NCAA and ECAC Championship bids.

In theECAC Tournament, Trinity hosts Wellesley and Colby welcomes Tufts. OnSaturday, the College of New Jersey hosts the Rowan/Union winner,Middlebury welcomes the Salisbury State/Cortland winner, William Smithwelcomes the St. Mary’s/Ursinus winner, and Bowdoin welcomes theAmherst/Colorado College winner. For the ECAC’s, Williams is the host andwill play the Tufts/Colby winner while Connecticut College will play thewinner of the Trinity/Wellesley matchup.
