CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia volleyball players Claire Folga (Atlanta, Ga./Marist Academy) and Jessica Parsons (Green Oaks, Ill./Libertyville) were named to the 1998 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-District Team. The duo joined nine other players from the Atlantic Coast Conference that were chosen to the team.

Folga, a fourth-year outside hitter at UVa, finished the ’98 season with 303 digs, 253 kills, 40 blocks, 27 service aces and 14 assists. She joined teammate Amanda Wells as a Second-Team All-ACC selection this season and was named the ACC Co-Player of the Week on (10/5) after leading Virginia to wins over Georgia Tech and Clemson. Folga finished her career on a high note, as she played her final collegiate match for Virginia against UCLA in the NCAA Division I Women’s National Championship. She helped guide UVa to its first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Folga assisted Virginia to a 26-8 record overall, 12-4 in the ACC. The 26 victories were the second most wins ever in a season at UVa, and the 12 conference victories were the most in school history in a single season at Virginia. For her career, she has recorded 1049 digs, 988 kills, 176 blocks, 89 services aces and 78 assists. Folga ranks fourth in Virginia volleyball history with 1049 career digs, fourth in digs per game in a career (2.91), fifth in career kills (988), sixth in career attack attempts (2628), seventh in career kills per game (2.74) and eighth in digs per game for a season (3.33).

Parsons, a third-year middle hitter for UVa, appeared in 34 matches and played in 128 games. She recorded 492 kills, 182 digs, 151 blocks, 23 service aces and 14 assists. Parsons is a First-Team All-ACC selection and was named the ACC Co-Player of the Week (11/16). She earned All-Tournament team and MVP honors in both the Pepperdine Tournament and the Jefferson Cup Tournament after pacing UVa to a 6-0 mark and first place finishes in both events.

After playing only three seasons in a Cavalier uniform, Parsons has already made her mark in numerous categories in the UVa record books. She ranks second in kills in a season (492), third in total blocks in a career (336), third in block assists in a career (263), third in blocks per game in a career (1.11), fourth in career kills per game (3.04), fourth in attack attempts in a season (1120), fourth in attack percentage in a career (.270), fourth in block solos in a season (40), fifth in kills per game in a season average (3.84), sixth in block solos in a career (73), sixth (111) and seventh (110) in block assists in a season, sixth (1.19) and seventh (1.18) in blocks per game in a season, sixth (157) and eighth (133) in total blocks in a season, seventh in career kills (918), seventh in attack percentage in a season (.323) and ninth in attack attempts in a career (2261) at Virginia.
