CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Quarterback Aaron Brooks threw for 148 yards and one touchdown Friday to highlight Virginia’s first spring football scrimmage at the Carl Smith Center, home of David A. Harrison III Field at Scott Stadium.

Brooks completed nine of 20 passes, including a 15-yard scoring strike to wide receiver Kevin Coffey.

Tailback Thomas Jones led the ground game with 17 carries for 61 yards. He scored on a four-yard run and was on the receiving end of two passes for 47 yards.

Tailback Tyree Foreman rushed 17 times for 44 yards and scored on a three-yard run. Anthony Southern (three yards) and Patrick Washington (one yard) also scored rushing touchdowns.

Three different place-kickers booted field goalsTodd Braverman (21 yards), David Greene (29 yards) and Greg Owens (35 yards).

Linebacker Shannon Taylor recorded nine tackles, including two behind the line of scrimmage, to lead the defense. Linebackers Donny Green and Byron Thweatt each had eight tackles. Tackle Kofi Bauwah had two quarterback sacks for 13 yards in losses and two other tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Defensive back Parker Lange and linebacker Wali Rainer intercepted passes.

Virginia’s annual spring game will be held next Saturday (April 4) at 1:30 PM at the Carl Smith Center, home of David A. Harrison III Field at Scott Stadium.
