Charlottesville, Va. – Virginia’s Matt Roth (Wescosville, Pa./Parkland) was named the ACC Wrestler of the week after going 3-0 at the Virginia Duals last week and recording his school-record 21st career pin in the process. It is the first time that Roth has been so honored.

Roth became Virginia’s all-time leader in pins with his victory 2:42 into the bout against Rider on Saturday, Jan. 9 in Hampton, Va. His 21st career pin eclipses the efforts of Howie Miller, who had 20 pins between 1992-93, 1995-96. Roth, with a 15-3 (7-0 Duals) record this season, has also moved into the top five at Virginia in all matches competed (4th, 125), dual matches competed (2nd, 53), wins (5th, 83), and dual match wins (3rd, 36).

Roth is currently ranked 10th in the latest InterMat rankings at the 125-pound class.

The Cavaliers will compete against #23 North Carolina on Friday, Jan. 15 at 7:30 pm in Chapel Hill. They will travel to Norfolk to take on in-state rival Old Dominion on Saturday at 2:00 pm. Virginia has lost 23 consecutive matches to the Tar Heels. In the 125-pound bout, Roth looks to match up against Chuckie Connor, currently ranked #5 in the country.
