CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – Willie Dersch had 26 points, and Chris Williams added 19, including six in a first-half run that broke open the game, asVirginia beat Elon 106-71.

The Cavaliers (4-2) led by five, 31-26, after Elon’s Andrew Toole hit a3-pointer with 7:39 left in the half. Virginia then went on a 19-8 run, withWilliams hitting on two dunks and a pair of free throws, to take a 50-34 leadinto halftime.

Elon (1-4) never got the lead under 14 points the remainder of the game.

Donald Hand, who was 4-for-8 on 3-pointers, added 21 points, Adam Hall had15 and Kris Hunter 10. Dersch was 6-for-9 on 3-pointers.

Dennis Gaskins led Elon with 15 points, while Brendon Rowell and Toole had14 apiece.

Elon turned the ball over 23 times, which accounted for 37 Virginia points.

While the Fightin’ Christians shot 56 percent from the floor, the Cavaliers,who were 56.9 percent from the floor, beat them from long range, hitting13-for-27 (48.1 percent), while Elon was 4-for-10.
