CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – Freshman Chris Williams scored a career-high 34 points, and Donald Hand added 22 more Tuesday as Virginia beat Liberty 95-70,avenging last year’s 69-64 loss to the Flames.

The Cavaliers (6-3) opened the game making five of their first six shots fora 13-4 lead before going cold for much of the first half, hitting only two oftheir next 16. Liberty (1-6) kept the Cavaliers in sight, trailing 35-27 aftertwo free throws by Jay Boykin with 5:47 left.

Virginia then went on a 14-2 run, with Williams scoring four, to take a49-29 lead into halftime. The Flames never got the lead under 15 points theremainder of the game, getting only five rebounds in the second half.

Willie Dersch had 17 points for the Cavaliers, while Adam Hall added 12.Williams had nine rebounds, four assists and one block.

Delawn Grandison led the Flames with 17 points, C.J. Cowgill had 16 and AdamHopkins 10.

Virginia had 17 points off the offensive boards and scored another 20 offLiberty turnovers.
