TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The University of Virginia golf team finished ninth out of 15 teams at the Seminole Classic at the Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla.

North Carolina shot an 880 to win the title by 12 strokes over host Florida State. The Tar Heels grabbed the early lead yesterday and made it stand up. Virginia finished with a 54-hole total of 924 (310-306-308).

North Carolina’s Ross Bain took medalist honors to lead the Tar Heels to victory. His 2-under par 214 (69-75-70) was two strokes ahead of N.C. State senior Tim Clark (78-66-72–216). Bain was among three Tar Heels to finish in the top-10.

Sophomore James Driscoll continued his steady play for Virginia by finishing fourth with a 4-over par 220 (73-70-77). He finished 11th in last year’s tournament. Driscoll began today’s play tied for first with Florida State’s Nathan Bertsch, but his 77 this afternoon took him out of contention for the title. Driscoll’s top-10 finish is the ninth of his young career.

Freshman Cameron Yancey was the only other Cavalier to finish in the top-40. He was among five golfers tied for 36th with a 233 (76-80-77).

The Cavaliers return to action this weekend (March 13-15) at the Golf Digest Collegiate Invitational at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas, Nevada.
