ARDMORE, Okla.–The University of Virginia golf team is in 11th place after the first round of the 14-team Perry Maxwell Tournament on Saturday (May 9). Oklahoma State and Texas are tied for the team lead with even-par totals of 280, and East Tennessee State is third with a team score of 282. Virginia has a team score of 296.

Lewis Chitengwa and Cameron Yancey had the best rounds of the day for the Cavaliers. Chitengwa and Yancey both had rounds of 3-over-par 73 on the Dornick Hills Country Club course. They are tied for 31st in the individual competition.

Chris Wall of New Mexico shot a 4-under-par 66 to take the lead in the individual competition. Charles Howell of Oklahoma State and Brandon Huffman of Texas both had rounds of 68 and are tied for second in the individual competition.

Other scores for Virginia included a 74 by Mike Mitchell, a 76 by James Driscoll and a 78 by Andrea Brotto.
