Men's Golf Sixth After Two Rounds at Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Virginia golf team is in sixth place after 36 holes at the Tennessee Tournament of Champions at the Fox Den Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
Cavalier head coach Mike Moraghan has put together one of his youngest squads in recent memory for this tournament and the move seems to be paying off.
Sophomore Mike Mitchell is tied for fifth place with a 3-under par 141. He shot a 68 in the first round and followed that with a 73 during the afternoon round. His 68 was the low first round score and second lowest of the tournament so far.
Freshman Steve Marino is tied for ninth with a 1-under par 143 following rounds of 70-73. Sophomore Cameron Yancey is tied for 29th with a 2-over par 146 (74-72). Junior James Driscoll is tied for 49th at 151 (+7/77-74) and freshman Shivin Kwatra is tied for 68th at 157 (80-77).
The Cavaliers have a team total of 581 and are one stroke behind Mississippi and Tennessee. N.C. State leads with a 570, one stroke ahead of North Florida.
Two East Tennessee State players are tied for the individual lead. David Christensen and Shawn Koch stand at 5-under par 139. They hold a one-stroke lead over North Florida’s Matt Borchert and Mark Gauley from N.C. State.
Play continues Tuesday with the final 18 holes.
