HEAD COACH: Dom Starsia (Brown ’74) enters his seventh season at Virginia.

CURENT RECORD: Starsia’s UVa mark stands at 72-27. [Career: 173-73].

LAST WEEK: UVa played Duke (10-9 loss, overtime). It was UVa’s 700th game.

THIS WEEK: UVa goes to UNC for the ACC Tournament. UVa plays Maryland (Fri., Apr. 23, 6:00 PM, @ UNC). The finals are Sunday, Apr. 25, 3:30 PM.

Admission (at home) is $4 adults and $2 for 18-under.

UVa is seeded second, Maryland is seeded 3rd. The finals are live on TV, HTS-TV.

THE SERIES: UVa leads Duke 41-13. UVa leads UNC 34-22. And UVa trails Maryland 38-25. UVa is 1-3 vs. Maryland in ACC Tournament play. The win was at UVa in the first round in 1996(13-9). The losses were in the first round(1991 10-9 at Duke; 9-8 OT at Maryland; and 14-11 in the finals in 1998, at UVa).

THE RATINGS: UVa is fifth in the coaches poll are fifth in the media’s this week. Duke is ranked third. Maryland is ranked eighth while UNC is ranked 14th.

NOTES: This is Dom Starsia’s 100th game at UVa as head coach. His overall record at Brown (101-46) plus UVa (72-27) makes him 173-73, which also means that he is only four games away from his 250th career game as a head coach.

UVa is 6-9 in ACC Tournament play (5-5 in semifinal play; 1-4 in finals). UVA is 3-1 vs. Duke in opening rounds; 1-2 vs. UNC, and 1-2 vs. MD.

In the finals, UVA is 0-3 vs. UNC, 1-0 vs. Duke, and 0-1 vs. Maryland. UVa is 0-2 in Chapel Hill (UNC and Duke).

UVa has never won an ACC tournament game on the road. UVa’s only final win was in 1997 over Duke at UVa. UVa’s other wins were in 1990, 94, 96, and 98.

UVa lost in the finals in 1998 to Maryland. Dom Starsia is 4 of 6 to date winning the regular season top seed.

UVa has four players on pre-season All American teams: Curtis on first team and McKnight, Jalbert, and Radebaugh made HM choices. Other Cavaliers receiving pre-season recognition are middie David Baruch, defender Doug Davies,middie Jason Hard, and long-pole Peter Ragosa.

Baruch’s five goals vs. Syracuse is a career high for him. Rookie attackman Conor Gill scored five goals vs. Rutgers, his season high. UVa scored nine times vs. Rutgers within 30 seconds of a previous faceoff, including three only six seconds after a goal.

Hanley Holcomb had a career high of four goals vs. UMass. Radebaugh’s five oals vs. OSU and JHU is a career high.

UVa is 29-5 at Klckner Stadium, since using the facility for the first time i 1993 (all under Starsia). UVa is 45-7 at home under Starsia( 86.3 %).

Starsia is 16-5 in ACC regular season games (and 9-1 at home in league games).

The Maryland game was Virginia’s best defensive effort in the series since 1970 (UVa 9-3 won). The UVa attack unit of Gill, Radebaugh,and McKnight scored nine goals on just 12 shots (each missed once). Against UNC, eight different players scored in the first half. Two defenders (Curtis from Harvey) scored their first career points on the same play, UVa’s first goal vs. UNC.
