CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior midfielder Michael Leahy scored a career-high three goals to lead third-ranked Virginia to a 12-7 victory over 19th-ranked Pennsylvania Wednesday in men’s lacrosse.

Backup goalkeeper Ben O’Neil started in place of regular starter Chris Sanderson for the Cavaliers (2-1) and stopped 15 shots. Sanderson, who suffered a separated left shoulder in Virginia’s 9-7 victory over top-ranked Princeton March 7, is questionable for this Saturday’s game against Massachusetts.

Virginia led 5-1 after Tucker Radebaugh’s goal with 13:19 remaining in the second quarter. But the Quakers (1-2) outscored the Cavaliers 4-1 the rest of the half to cut their deficit to 6-5.

It was 8-6 entering the fourth quarter. That was when sophomore attackman Drew McKnight went to work. In a six-minute stretch of the period, he assisted on two goals and scored twice himself to push Virginia’s advantage to 12-6.

McKnight ended the game with three goals and three assists. Radebaugh had two goals and three assists for the Cavaliers. Joe Mauro and Peter Janney each had two goals for the Quakers.

Virginia travels to 12th-ranked Massachusetts Saturday.
