FULLERTON, Calif. – Art Ramirez scored with less than 19 minutes to play in regulation Sunday night to give Cal State Fullerton a 1-1 tie with No. 2 ranked Virginia and the championship by goal differential of the FILA men’s soccer Classic at Titan Stadium. Neither team scored in 30 minutes of sudden-death overtime.

Fullerton was a plus two in goals for the tourney while Virginia was plus one. Fullerton is now 2-0-1 on the season while Virginia is 1-0-1.

The Cavaliers scored the first goal on the Titans this season in the 54th minute as Steve Totten took a cross from Ryan Trout about 15 yards out and beat CSF goalkeeper Sean Rockwell, who had nine saves. Mike Forensich, the Titans’ goalie in 1995 and 1996 before transferring to Virginia, had seven saves for the Cavaliers.

The Titans tied the match when Rockwell sent a long pass down the right sideline from where Brad Dunaway sent a long ball to Ramirez, who beat his defender before left-footing the ball into the net past Forensich.
