FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Virginia softball team extended its winning streak to a season-high nine games by sweeping George Mason in a doubleheader. The Cavaliers won the first game 2-0, before taking the nightcap by the score of 3-1.

Stacey Zagol threw a one-hitter for UVa to go along with her six strikeouts. Virginia recorded eight hits in the game, led by Lori Reese (2-3, 1 RBI, double) and Karen Breshears (1-2, 1 RBI). Beth Crimi (1-2, double), Meaghan Young (1-3, run), Corinne Good (1-3), Cristy Chiappe (1-3) and Kelly McCabe (1-4) added hits in the win.

Cory Bolkan started on the mound in the second-game, allowing seven hits to go along with one strikeout. Chrisy Quinn replaced Bolkan in the fifth inning, striking out five batters and scattering two hits to earn a save. Virginia racked-up nine hits, highlighted by Breshears (2-3, 1 RBI, run), Young (2-4, triple) and Good (1-3, 2 RBI). Stacy Holmes (1-4) and Reese (1-3) each scored a run, while Amy Peay (1-2) and Crimi (1-3) added hits in the 3-1 victory.

The wins improve Virginia’s record to (28-17) overall. The Cavaliers will travel to Blacksburg, Va. to face Virginia Tech in a doubleheader on Tuesday, (Mar. 31). The first game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
