CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia softball team broke a three-game losing streak, defeating Cleveland State in a doubleheader at The Park. UVa won the first game 2-0, before taking the nightcap 5-3.

In game-one, Stacey Zagol pitched a complete game while striking out six batters and allowing only two hits. Stacy Holmes (3-3, 1 RBI) gathered three of Virginia’s four hits in the game. Corinne Good (1-1) added a single and Karen Breshears collected an RBI in the 2-0 win.

Chrisy Quinn started on the mound for the Cavaliers in the second game. She pitched three and one-third innings, scattering three hits while posting five strikeouts. Zagol closed out the game for UVa, striking out one batter and allowing one hit. The Cavaliers recorded eight at the plate highlighted by Holmes (2-3, 2 RBI, double), Beth Crimi (2-2, double, run) and Jen Krill (2-3, run). Lori Reese (1-3, 1 RBI), and Meaghan Young (1-4, 1 RBI) each added hits in the victory.

The sweep improves Virginia’s record to (21-17) overall. The Cavaliers will travel to Richmond, Va. to compete in the Sports Plus Collegiate Classic on March 27-28. Virginia will play East Carolina and Longwood College on Friday, (Mar. 27), and will compete in the Classic finals on Saturday, (Mar. 28).
