CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia head softball coach Cheryl Sprangel has announced the Cavaliers will participate in three softball tournament this fall.

Virginia will play in the Fall Tournament in Huntington, W.V. on September 26, the North Carolina Fall Collegiate Fastpitch Tournament in Chapel Hill, N.C. on October 2-3, and in the Penn State Fall Tournament in State College, Pa. on October 10-11.

“We will use each of the fall tournaments as competitive scrimmage situations. They will give us an early opportunity to take a look at everyone’s performance that we will have on the team in the spring. It will also give us a good chance to measure the level of play that some of our first-year players will be bringing to the team,” says Sprangel.

In addition to the fall tournament schedule, Sprangel has announced the 1999 softball schedule. The slate features Virginia hosting two tournaments at The Park. The UVa Cavalier Classic is scheduled for March 5-7, and the UVa Hoo’s Who Tournament is scheduled for March 26-28. Virginia will also compete in three tournament away from Charlottesville, when it travel to the North Carolina Tournament (Feb. 19-21), the University of California – Santa Barbara Tournament (Feb. 26-28) and the Florida State Tournament (Mar. 12-14).

The Cavaliers will host non-conference members Eastern Michigan (Mar. 3), Hofstra (Apr. 6), Elon College (Apr. 8), George Mason (Apr. 11), Virginia Tech (Apr. 27) and Liberty (Apr. 28), as well as Atlantic Coast Conference and Southern Atlantic Softball Alliance members Georgia Tech (Apr. 11), UNC-Charlotte (Apr. 17-18) and Maryland (Apr. 24-25) at home.

The 1999 ACC Softball Tournament will once again be held in Tallahassee, Fla., at Florida State University’s Lady Seminole Field onMay 14-16.
