Talented Lacrosse Duo Named to Team USA

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The University of Virginias Samm Taylor (Springfield, Va./Robinson) and Stephy Samaras (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) were both named to the United States National Developmental Squad for 1998-99. The squad was announced by Denise Wescott, the Chair of the United States Womens Lacrosse Association selection committee and head coach at Delaware.
Taylor is making her first appearance on the US squad. A second-team All-American in 1998, she led the Cavaliers in caused turnovers with 56 (2.8 per game) and 39 draw controls (1.95 per game). Her 13 goals and 7 assists this season are both career highs. She was a member of the first team All-South squad.
Samaras started every game for the Cavaliers, and was the anchor in the nations top-ranked defense. The Cavaliers allowed 6.00 goals per game, the top scoring defense in the nation in 1999. He ranked fourth this year on the Cavaliers with 27 caused turnovers and scooped up 41 ground balls, which ranked in the top ten for Virginia.
