Third Baseman Earns 1998 All-ECAC Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia senior third baseman Brian Sherlock (Medford, N.J.) has been selected to the 1998 All-Eastern College Athletic Conference second team, in voting by a panel of athletic administrators and sports information directors.
Sherlock, who was a starter at third base throughout his career with the Cavaliers, hit .351 on the year with 19 doubles, 10 home runs and 60 runs batted in. He tied the school single-season record for doubles with 19, while his 60 RBI are the second highest total in UVa history. Sherlock, who started all 55 games for the Cavaliers this year, also had a .624 slugging percentage and a .458 on-base percentage. He concludes his career ranked third all-time at UVa in doubles (48); seventh in hits (208), RBI (127) and walks (97); eighth in games played (190) and at-bats (663); and ninth in runs scored (133), total bases (321) and times hit-by-pitch (11).
The Cavaliers finished the 1998 season with an overall record of 28-26-1 and a 5-18 mark in the ACC. Virginia’s 130 wins during Sherlock’s career are a school record over a four-year span.
