CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – UVa’s winter sports are almost done, with the spring sports well under way. The year to date record is 162-85-5(65.3%).

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Coach: Jeff Jones, eighth season at Virginia, record: 146-104 1997-98 record, 11-19. Last week, UVa played Duke(63-41 loss) in the ACC tournament. The season is complete.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Coach: Debbie Ryan, 20th season at Virginia, record: 480-164. 1997-98 record, 18-9. Last week, UVa was idle. This week, UVa plays at Arizona in the East Regional NCAA bracket(Fri.-Sun., Mar. 13-15, 9:30 PM, 9 :00 PM,away).

SWIMMING: Coach: Mark Bernardino, 20th season at Virginia, record: 128-76 men, 143-58-1. 1997-98 record, 8-1 men, 7-2 women. Last week, UVa was idle. This week, UVa has the NCAA Zone Diving Meet(Fri.-Sat., Mar. 13-14, Minneapolis).

WRESTLING: Coach: Lenny Bernstein, fifth season at Virginia, record: 39-35. 1997-98 record, 8-7. Last week, UVa was at the ACC Meet(second, team). This week, UVa is idle.

INDOOR TRACK: Coach: Randy Bungard, first season at Virginia, record: no dual meets. 1997-98 record, no dual meets. Last week, UVa was at the ECAC meet(xxx) and the IC4A Meet(xxx). This week is the NCAA Meet(Fri.-Sat., Mar. 13-14, Indianapolis).

MEN’S TENNIS: Coach Thomas Johnston, fifth season at Virginia, record, 61-41. 1997-98 record, 7-3. Last week, UVA played Georgia Tech(4-3 won) and Furman(today). This week, UVaplays Furman today, Davidson(Sat., Mar. 14, 10:00 AM, away, and Clemson(Sun., Mar. 15, 1;00 PM, away).

WOMEN’S TENNIS: Coach Phil Rogers, 16th season at Virginia, record: 167-150. 1997-98 record, 2-1(Fall) and 2-2 Spring. Last week, UVa played Boston Univ.. This week, UVa plays Miami(FL)(Wed., Mar. 11, 11:00 AM, away) and Florida International(Sat., Mar. 14, 9:00 AM, away).

SOFTBALL: Coach: Cheryl Sprangel, first season at Virginia, record: 9-10. 1997-98 record, 9-10. Last week, UVa played UVa played UMBC(2-1 won, 1-0 won), East Carolina(6-1 won, 5-4 loss, 7-3 won ), LSU(8-2 loss, 5-4 loss), and SW Louisiana(today). This week, UVa plays NE Louisiana(Thur., Mar. 12, 2:00 PM, away(2) and Louisiana Tech(Fri., Mar. 13, 2, 3:00 PM, away).

BASEBALL: Coach: Dennis Womack, 18th season at Virginia, record: 450-428-5. 1997-98 record, 10-3. MEN’S GOLF: Coach: Mike Moraghan, ninth season at Virginia, record: no dual meets. 1997-98, no dual matches. Last week, UVa attended the Seminole Classic(tomorrow). This week, UVA is at the Golf Digest Trn.(Fri-Sun., Mar. 13-15, Las Vegas).

MEN’S LACROSSE: Coach: Dom Starsia, sixth season at Virginia, record: 60-20. !997-98 record: 2-1. Last week(ranked 5th), UVa played Mercyhurst(17-2 won) and Princeton(9-7 won). This week, UVa plays Penn(Wed., Mar. 11, 3:00 PM, U-Hall Turf Field) and Massachusetts(Sat., Mar. 14, Noon, away).

WOMEN’S ROWING: Coach: Kevin Sauer, third season at Virginia, record: 8-0. 1997-98 record, 0-0. Last week, UVa was idle. The spring season opens March 21.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE: Coach: Julie Myers, third season at Virginia, record: 28-9. 1997-98 record, 0-0. Last week, UVa was idle. This week, UVa opens with Old Dominion(Wed., Mar. 11, 6:00 PM, U-Hall Turf Field) and UMBC(Mon., Mar. 16, 4:00 PM, U-Hall Turf Field).
