CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia softball players Lori Reese (Shippensburg, Pa.) and Stacey Zagol (Berwyn, Pa.) were named to the 1998 All-State Softball Team by the Virginia College Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

Reese started all 66 games for the Cavaliers. She batted .311 and finished second on the team in hits (61), RBI (25) and stolen bases (9) while tying teammate Beth Crimi for the team-high in doubles (15). Reese recorded two triples, one homerun and gathered a team-high 146 assists to go along with 82 putouts. She was selected to the Sports Plus Collegiate Classic All-Tournament team, where she recorded five hits, five RBI and scored a run to help Virginia capture the tournament crown. Reese was also selected to the 1998 ACC All-Conference team.

Zagol was the Cavaliers top pitcher in 1998 and started 31 of the 41 games she saw action in. She pitched 239.1 innings, finishing the season with a record of 19-15 and an ERA of 1.55. Zagol pitched 29 complete games, posted eight shutouts and collected two saves. She held opposing hitters to a batting average of .156 while gathering 98 assists and nine putouts. Zagol also recorded one hit in only two at bats. She was selected as the ACC Players of the Week twice (March 30 & April 20) and was named to the All-Tournament teams in the Winthrop Invitational, the Sports Plus Collegiate Classic Tournament and in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, as well as being named to the 1998 ACC All-Conference team.

Liberty University’s Stacy Radulovich was named the NCAA Division I (University Division) Virginia State Softball Player-of-the-Year, and Liberty’s Paul Wetmore was named the State’s Coach-of-the-Year for the third consecutive year by the State’s Sports Information Directors.
