FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Virginia competed in the Virginia Tech Last Chance Invitational. The Cavaliers posted impressive results in the meet.

The men’s team was highlighted by the distance medley squad which finished fifth with a time of (9:43.20). The finish qualifies the team provisionally for the NCAA Championships, which are scheduled to take place in Indianapolis, Ind. on March 13-14. Aundre Oldacre and Rauhn Turner competed in the 500 meter dash. Oldacre finished first with a time of (1:03.55) and Turner finished third with a time of (1:03.82). In the 800 meter run, Ray Weeden finished fifth with a time of (1:53.30) and Bill Palmer finished seventh with a time of (1:54.50). All four individuals qualified for the IC4A meet with their performances.

The women’s team was highlighted by Jennifer Owens who finished first in the one mile run with a time of (4:58.37). Her finish qualifies her for a spot in the ECAC meet. Cheryl Twomey finished second in the 5,000 meter run with a time of (18:15.20) for the Cavaliers.

Virginia will return to action on Saturday, (Mar. 7-8) when the Cavaliers compete in the IC4A/ECAC meets. The IC4A meet will be held in Ithaca, N.Y. and the ECAC meet will take place in Boston, Mass.
