CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Kelly Sheffield has been named assistant volleyball coach at the University of Virginia by Melissa Aldrich Shelton, head volleyball coach at UVa.

Sheffield, a native of Muncie, Ind., is a 1997 graduate of Ball State University. Prior to arriving at Virginia, he served as an assistant coach at the University of Houston in 1997, where Sheffield helped guide the Cougars to the Conference USA championship and to a seventh straight bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Sheffield was the head coach for the Houston Juniors Volleyball Club (1997) and the Munciana Volleyball Club (1989-1997), which earned six consecutive Top-20 placings at the U.S. Junior Nationals. He helped develop thirty-four players into future high school All-State selections and eleven club or high school All-Americans during his coaching career. Sheffield also served as an assistant coach with New Castle (1994-1996) and Muncie Burris (1989-1992) high schools.

“Kelly’s knowledge of volleyball techniques and tactics, as well as his recruiting contacts in the Midwest makes him a great asset to Virginia volleyball, ” said Aldrich Shelton. “We welcome him to our program and are eager for him to begin.”
