COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Virginia softball team split a pair of games with Maryland at the North Softball Complex. The Cavaliers dropped the first game 8-7, before taking the nightcap by a score of 5-4.

In game-one, Stacey Zagol took the mound for UVa. She allowed seven runs while striking out eight batters. The Cavaliers gathered eight hits in the game, led by Lori Reese (2-3, 2 runs 1 RBI) and Tish Tablan (2-3, 1 RBI, run). Virginia took a 7-5 led into the bottom of the seventh before the Terps scored three runs in the inning to seal the win. Maryland’s Amy Sandler recorded the game winning RBI single. Stacy Holmes (1-3, 1 RBI), Karen Breshears (1-3, run), Amy Peay (1-3, run) and Corinne Good (1 RBI, run) were noteworthy for Virginia.

In the second game, Chrissy Quinn scattered six hits while striking out nine batters for UVa. At the plate, the Cavaliers were limited to four hits in the game, but managed to rally late and return the favor to Maryland by taking the game in the eight inning. With the game tied at 4-4, Jen Krill (1-2, 1 RBI) bunted Reese to third base. Two plays later, Maryland’s Sandler was credited with an error that allowed Reese to score the game winning run. Meaghan Young (2-4, 2 RBI, run), and Holmes (1-4) added hits in the 5-4 win.

Virginia’s record moves to (33-24) overall. The Cavaliers return to home action when they face Florida State on Saturday, (April 18) in a doubleheader at The Park. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
